In STEAM class, ECA's Kindergarten and first-grade students have moved from the needs of plants to the needs of animals. Recently, they built bird nests using naturally found objects and manmade construction materials. The first graders had the added challenge of making sure their nests had a solid base and sturdy walls. Later, we put our nests to the test by perching them high in a tree of cardboard tubes and adding marbles for eggs. The record for the most marbles supported by one nest was 26, and everybody made it into the double digits. Mother Nature would be proud.
