Full STEAM Ahead

The focus of this year’s STEAM showcase is energy and recycling. Kindergarten and first-grade students are experimenting with gravity, inclined planes, and a new concept—drag—as they build chain reactions and send parachutes whizzing through the air. Second graders are designing arcade games that involve inclined planes and the force of gravity. They added lots of creative twists and challenges that promise to be fun. Their games will become one of the playful attractions at our STEAM Showcase, which is coming soon in November. Third through fifth graders completed their detailed kinetic sculptures, inspired by the famous sculptor, Alexander Calder. They are now learning about the anatomy of a landfill, and are designing their own leak-proof models. Alongside the hands-on learning, designing, and creating, the students in grades 3 to 5 are coding a robot race to explore the duration each type of trash remains in landfills before it decomposes. We hope to see you all at the STEAM showcase!
