For a fun Friday STEAM challenge, ECA's second- through fifth-grade students went on a trip to the Arctic biome. Some students played Arctic Scrabble, freeing the letters from the ice to form words related to the Arctic, all the while creating their own northern lights display.
Other students demonstrated their learning by constructing models of an Arctic fox den using Keva planks, toothpicks, and marshmallows. Unlike woodland foxes, Arctic foxes build their dens deep under the snow and ice. Their system includes tunnels, rooms and multiple exits—not as elaborate as the underground villages of prairie dogs—but very similar.
